3/5

So after seeing this the other week I thought why not blog about it?
Basically it’s about a guy who accidentally becomes magnetized and destroys all the videos in a friends video store. They then try and re-make the films on their very low budget and become local stars because of it.
Okay so it is a film written and directed by Michel Gondry, who also directed one of my favorite films, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and that’s why there is a serious aspect to it, going deep into how the art of film-making is dying and the industry is all about making money now. Now I went along to see this film thinking it’d just be a full on comedy film with a loose story and a lot of laughs, well I was happy that this was not the case. Although it is very funny at parts it is also serious in others.
I havn’t ever liked Jack Black, as a musician he was nothing special, as an actor it’s the same, but as an actor he suits being in the comedy role. I feel he let this film down a bit on the serious parts, but did well in the comedy.
Overall I thought the film was pretty good, but I think the acting brought it down. Maybe i’m just not used to Jack Black being in a serious role, but I think he should stick to being the idiot like usual. If you have some spare time and nothing better to go and see then this might be a good choice.

When a Vagas performer decides that he wants to testify agains’t the mafia it turns out a lot of people want him dead, wouldn’t you know it? A conversation is heard and a hit is placed on Buddy Israel’s head of one million dollars, well it attracts the attention of the worlds best hitmen (and women) and puts his life in extreme danger, with the FBI getting involved and more plot twists we see a story unravel before our very eyes, quite an unbelievable one at that.
The story is that a man goes into a magical land to retrieve a fallen star (which is a person) but he then finds that he is not the only one who seeks the star, and has to keep her safe. He runs into many challenges along the way (including a cross-dressing sky pirate played by Robert De Niro who I think must have really needed the money to play this role) and his quest changes as he finds himself falling in love with the star.
